Megabass's Great Hunting Huntsman is a series of 4 top of the range rods for Trout Native! HUNTSMAN™ can be defined as "The definitive Trout Native rod" and brings back the rod building philosophy of Yuki Ito, the founder of Megabass, reawakened in the Trout Native world. Leveraging the craftsmanship of the Megabass Factory and next-generation technology from ITO Engineering, the GREAT HUNTING HUNTSMAN™ is a boundary-pushing trout rod for true naturalists and purists. The grip was handcrafted by craftsmen, one at a time, from solid wood and follows accurate contours derived from ergonomic data from the Megabass Factory. The intuitive grip is perfect for precise casting approaches from all angles. The surprisingly high resistance produced by the thin blanks is due to ITO Engineering's rod technology, which allows for significant catches. The new ultra-light guide system achieves low-trajectory casts with little friction and seamless retrieves with ratios reducing line stress. The guides are the latest ultra-light SiC with titanium frame; the reel seat parts are precision machined from a solid block of high-strength aluminum. The specially designed slim trigger is combined with an ergonomically carved hardwood handle for a natural look, high rigidity and excellent angler feel. The Great Hunting Huntsman was designed to help you find the best Native Trout rod!
Technical features:
HUNTING-ANGLE HANDLE
HUNTSMAN™ original handles are carefully machined one at a time from solid hardwood, following careful contours derived from ergonomic data from the Megabass Factory. The handles are then finished by hand in a painstaking process, resulting in a confidence-inspiring grip that supports pinpoint casting from all approach angles. The grain and color of the wood may vary due to the use of natural materials.
HUNTSMAN™ REEL SEAT & TRIGGER
The ultra-thin high-strength trigger, combined with the ergonomic hardwood handle, achieves a superb, stress-free fitting that integrates distinct materials. Each carefully designed metal part is machined to the highest specifications, striving alongside the hearts of hunters as they take on the quest of sacred mountain fish.
HUNTSMAN™ TITANIUM-SiC GUIDE SYSTEM
Harnessing a new guide system in pursuit of a lightweight, low-friction array, the HUNSTMAN™ enables low trajectory casts and seamless retrieves. The micro guides feature the latest ultra-lightweight titanium frame and SiC inserts, minimizing friction to push light line to its fullest potential.
Models:
GHBF48-3UL
The GHBF48-3UL is a compact model for remote headwaters that often require climbing to access. The HUNTSMAN's modern shaft feels like an extension of your arm, allowing you to comfortably deploy lure offerings from all positions and angles. Its compact castability enables aggressive approaches to key areas even when it is difficult to secure a foothold or traditional backswing space. The butt section, displaying a tautness that is unimaginable from such a slim blank, provides the crisp backbone for twitching, while the high-tension belly section precisely controls the bite and fight of mountain stream fish. The rod has a powerful lifting ability that exceeds the standard of an ultralight rod, allowing anglers to tackle upper-class fish from high footholds with confidence.
GHBF53-3UL
GHBF53-3UL is a versatile model at the core of the HUNTSMAN series, designed with a stronger power matrix than the GHBF48-3UL to cover faster currents and larger fish. Bringing high controllability to heavier sinking minnows, it performs comfortable continuous twitching in strong currents even with lures that have a lot of pulling resistance. The intuitive control and ergonomic fit become an extension of the arm, enabling active casts with a snap of the wrist. A strong butt section with high torque handles not only big native trout, but also rockfish over 40 cm. With stress-free ergonomics, smooth castability, and the capability to bring a wider range of lure weights to life, the GHBF53-3UL is built for repeated backcountry excursions.
GHBF60-4L
GHBF60-4L is a long-distance model designed to bring the fight not only to headwaters, but also larger streams. The high-density wood and longer grip shift the rod’s balance point to a tip-up posture, enabling sharp upward twitch work in shallow areas and comfortable wrist casts. The unique rifle-back form of the grip encourages a fighting stance that allows the angler to lock his/her wrist to the end of the handle when interacting with monster fish. Delicate fast tip action is the result of the pursuit of precise lure control. The belly and butt sections, designed with a unique variable matrix to produce high torque, provide the power to pull 60 cm class rainbows from strong currents. This is a power-playing model for native trout games, tested and released after repeated encounters with large silvered amago, enoha, wild rainbows and browns.
GHBF511-4L "Tanabira Special"
This is Yuki Ito's special game rod for targeting wide-eyed amago, also known as "tanabira," which roam the currents of Kiso, Shinshu. Tailor-made by MPW (Megabass Performance Works) to Ito’s exacting specifications, the GHBF511-4L features super high-density Ivory Rosewood for its "precise lure management," "continuous high-speed snap work," and "instantaneous bite detection (hand sensitivity)" to target and capture the elusive tanabira. The rod is designed with a tip-down balance for a twitch-heavy technique and is set to larger and stronger stream specifications. Standing in the current that nurtures the tanabira, the rod comfortably enables twitching of heavy sinking minnows such as the GH65 day after day. It is specially geared for reaction fishing to trigger bites in tight windows, deliver lightning hooksets, and unleash the power needed to pull trophies from the strong current. The torquey shaft of the "Tanabira Special" delivers a wider power range and precision control to allow anglers to approach diverse waters with dynamic confidence.
